Well, more news on this release. (Yay!) It seems that rapper Xzibit, actress Amanda Peet and legendary commedian Billy Connolly have joined the cast of The X-Files 2. The question now is, why?

I love BC, Amanda Peet's proven herself a pretty good actress in some things and I'm sure Xzibit is very good at what he does, but do they sound like the types of characters that should be in a GOOD X-Files film? I guess I'll have to wait and find out. :) It hasn't yet been released as to what Connolly will be doing, but the other two are set to play other FBI agents. I hope this was a good plan. :P

Anyway, it's also been released that the film will not be continuing from the end of the series. (What? So we waited for the conclusion and there isn't one? That's so typical... Damn you Chris Carter, damn you!) It is being billed as a stand-alone sci-fi thriller that will be accesible to all, not just the hoards of X-Philes who have been waiting four years. (For a bloody conclusion!) Still, that leaves a possibility of The Lone Gunmen reappearing because it is likely that the film will be set before the events of the last seasons, but no mention of the three have yet been made.

I'm sure I'll love it no matter what, since I've been yearning for a new (good) X-Files episode/movie since the show ended, but I'm a little saddened that we won't get to see the 'Independence Day' type film that could have been AWESOME. The invasion etc. would have made the perfect premise, I feel, but hey. It's Chris's show, so fair play to him.

I think other fans were expecting the same, hence fan trailers like this one.

It could have been awesome in that way. Let's hold thumbs that it'll be awesome in another way. An unexpected way.
